Condensation is something all of us are familiar with. From beads of water sliding down the sides of a cold drink to dewy grass in the mornings and fogged car windows, condensation is a part of our daily lives. While it can be a nuisance in some ways, homeowners may begin to wonder if the condensation that covers their home windows could cause any real damage. After all, water damage is one of the biggest issues a homeowner can face, and while window condensation is a much smaller scale than say a slab leak, condensation is still a form of water and it makes sense to worry how this could affect your home and windows. Here at Goverla Windows and Doors, we are familiar with windows and all related issues and are here to help with any of your concerns.
Window condensation occurs when humid air comes into contact with a cold surface resulting in droplets of water. Condensation on your home windows is most likely to happen during particularly cooler or warmer weather when the cold or warm air outside comes into contact with your air-conditioned or warmed humid air inside.Â
Condensation on your windows can happen in a few different ways. Water droplets can appear on the outside of your window panes, most likely in summer, or on the inside of your windows, which is more common in winter. While it is less common, condensation can also appear between double- and triple-paned windows. This happens when there is a break in the seal between the panes, and condensation or dirt can now get between the panes.  Â
Condensation on the outside or inside of your windows is not necessarily a cause for concern and actually indicates your windows and home heating and air are working well. Condensation on the inside of the window can cause some minor issues like unhealthy air quality if left alone or is happening in excess. If this happens there are a few things you can do:
The worst-case scenario when it comes to window condensation is having condensation between the panes of double or triple-paned windows. This means you have a broken window seal that needs to be addressed. There are a few fixes you can try such as trying to locate and repair any broken seals. This may provide a quick fix for a limited time, but in the long run, a replacement window is the best way to deal with a broken window seal.
