Tips on Choosing the Right Replacement Windows

15May

Windows have a rich history that dates all the way back to the Romans in 100 A.D. with the use of windows in homes becoming more commonplace around the 17th century. The evolution of techniques of glass blowing among other things now allows homeowners a wide range of options for windows. Now, when it comes to windows you are not only considering the aesthetic look of the window and how it fits with your home’s design and architecture but also its energy efficiency. The world of windows has evolved a lot with technology and choosing new windows can feel quite overwhelming with everything you need to consider. At Goverla Window & Doors we want to take that confusion out of the window replacement process for you! We specialize in windows and can provide you the best materials with expert installation. Check out the information below to learn more about replacement windows.

How To Choose the Right Windows

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing new windows so we have compiled some topics to help you make your best, most informed decision.

The Frame

There are a handful of different materials used for window frames and each has their own pros and cons

  • Wood- these frames offer incredible charm, are easily customizable to any shape window, energy efficient, and can be stained different shades. While wood windows are aesthetically gorgeous they are often expensive and require a lot of upkeep.
  • Wood clad- these offer a low maintenance exterior of typically vinyl or aluminum, with a good insulated wood interior. They give you the look of wood windows but require less maintenance (though still some!). They can be more expensive like wood windows but offer great aesthetics and are energy efficient.
  • Composite- these are an eco-friendly choice that mimics the look of wood and are practically maintenance-free. They are energy efficient and recyclable. The type of composite you get can vary by manufacturer, so it’s important you research and trust whoever is providing your composite window frame.
  • Fiberglass- these offer top-notch energy efficiency and are extremely strong and durable. Fiberglass is a great option for hurricane prone areas as well as high heat climates. They are also low maintenance and customizable. The one drawback to this choice, however, is their high cost.
  • Vinyl- vinyl frames are a very cost-effective choice and offer quality energy efficiency. Vinyl is both flexible and durable as well as an insulator which means it won’t transfer heat, keeping warmth out during the summer and in during the winter. Vinyl frame’s downside is there aren’t  as many colors to choose from which could limit your design options

The Glass

When it comes to the glass portion of your windows you can get double pane or triple pane. You may also have the option of adding some UV protection with a tinted film. Our manufacturer works with Cardinal Glass who offer the following:

  • LoE270
  • LoE366
  • LoEi89
  • Neat Glass

These coated glass options provide UV protection and heat repellant in the summer as well as reflecting heat into the home during cooler months.

Window Installation

It doesn’t matter what type of frames or glass you have, if the installation is done improperly you will end up having a lot of problems down the line. Our professionals at Goverla Windows & Doors have expertly trained installers to make sure you are getting the best results from your window replacements. We offer a variety of services to best meet all of your needs including, pocket replacements, full-frame installations, and we take care of any rotten wood, guaranteed!  Call us today to see how we can help!
